COURSE DESCRIPTION
Now you can learn SCRIPT WRITING from the comfort of your home! We use Skype and email for communication.
Do you want to enter the movie industry with your OWN script? Do you want to adapt a novel into a movie script ? If you answered ‘yes’, this course is specially designed for you. As a part of this intense 2 month course, you will complete the first draft of your SCRIPT for a feature film.
CONTENTS
- Film genre – The visual nature of movies. Screenplay as a blueprint. Various genre and their unique style. What are the creative scope and limitations of each genre.
- Ideas for your story – Where to find ideas. How to select your film idea and develop it. How to tailor your idea to fit your budget.
- Story structure – The classic three act narrative structure. Create Plot points to give dramatic impact to your screenplay.
- Plot – Plot and its’ relationship to Character/ Genre/ Theme/ Tone. How sub-plots and B-Story line correlate thematically to the central plot.
- Character – How to develop and strengthen your screen characters. Define character arc for the hero.
- Dialogue – How to communicate the thoughts and feelings of your characters through crisp and meaningful dialogue.
- Script format – The universal format of screen plays. You will be using script writing software which will be given to you.
- Revision – Exploration of the various stages of revision.
- The Business – How to get your script made into a film. Learn how to create a pitch for your script. How to pitch your script to industry players – Producers, Financiers and Directors.
ELIGIBILITY
This workshop is for anyone who wants to develop and write a movie script. No prior experience or knowledge of story writing is required. Minimum age is 16.
DURATION
The workshop runs on Saturday mornings from 11am to 1pm for a period of 8 Weekends. We use SKYPE for the online class. Assignments and submissions will be communicated via e-mail.
COACH
Sam Kumar learnt Script Writing in US directly from SYD FIELD, the godfather of modern script writing. He has written and directed many documentary films, short films and corporate films in US and Singapore. Currently he has completed a Tamil film script and in talks for producing it.
